A smile can decide the outcome of a business meeting or a first date, so you need to learn to naturally and beautifully bloom all over your face. Let's look at effective techniques for getting into a smiling state.

  1. Go to the mirror, smile, then freeze, take a good look at yourself, assessing the flaws in your appearance.
  2. Look how visible the teeth and gums are, what the curvature of the lips is.
  3. Next, try to blur without exposing your gums.
  4. If your teeth are yellow, get them in order.
  5. Pay attention to the lips. They should not have repulsive cracks or unpleasant peeling. If your lips are peeling, start treating them immediately. Perhaps you are lacking vitamins.
  6. If your lips are thin, do not try to enlarge them with lipstick. Upon closer inspection, they will not look aesthetically pleasing.
  7. Use chapstick or lipstick in natural shades.
  8. If you are talking to someone, imagine that a camera is watching you and you need to look charming. A light smile must “glide” across your lips.

Rate your appearance

  1. Use your own reflection in the mirror, smile in your usual way and freeze. Soberly evaluate all the flaws in your appearance.
  2. Take a closer look at how much you grin and whether your gums are visible. Assess the curvature and condition of the teeth. Don't be shy in your exercises, no one is watching you.
  3. If visible flaws are identified, try to limit your smile to your lips, without exposing your teeth. If possible, use the services of a dentist.
  4. First of all, restore all the teeth if they are missing. Then, if necessary, resort to braces. After that, whiten your teeth and learn to smile properly again.

  • Take the tension off your face and don’t think about how you’ll turn out in the photo.

Advice from psychologists

It is necessary to talk about one more miraculous power of a smile.
It can lift the spirits of even the person from whom it comes. Psychologists advise immediately after waking up to smile at yourself - warmly, dreamily and sweetly stretch. It is also worth thinking that the coming day will be positive and successful. Only after this can you get out of bed and begin your daily morning routine. It is very important that this seemingly trifling ritual becomes a daily routine. You will see how your life will soon change, because you will start thinking positively

Secrets and mysteries of a smile

Among the variety of non-verbal means of communication, the smile occupies a special place. This is due not only to the role it plays in communication, but also to its amazing features.

A smile is a facial movement that can involve up to 53 facial muscles. And if you remember that there are 57 facial facial muscles, you understand how complex this movement is and how diverse a smile can be. In addition, the eyes are involved in this facial reaction - their expression is very important for understanding the essence of a smile.

It is traditionally believed that it expresses positive emotions: joy, pleasure, happiness. However, in the process of long evolution, the smile has acquired many types and meanings, and in modern man it often expresses rather contradictory emotions. For example, it is difficult to describe in a few words what feelings a sad, mocking, angry or tragic smile conveys. What does a person feel when he smiles doomedly? Hardly positive emotions. A person’s ability to convey through a smile a variety of feelings that are difficult to describe is one of the mysteries of this complex facial reaction.

Considering the complexity, you might think that learning to smile is very difficult and requires years of practice. But that's not true. Children begin to smile literally in the first weeks after birth, although, of course, many types of this facial reaction are mastered only by adults. Fortunately, our kids are incapable of sarcastic, contemptuous, or evil smiles.

Smiling does not need to be learned, because it is an innate expressive reaction. Even higher animals can smile: dogs, horses, dolphins, monkeys, etc. Expressive reactions arise as a manifestation of experienced emotions. A person has many of them, for example, redness of the skin, dilation and constriction of the pupils, tremors - trembling of the limbs, goosebumps on the skin, etc.

Expressive reactions are reflexive in nature, and a person cannot control them, voluntarily evoke or suppress them. So, we are not able to sweat or blush at our own request; our pupils also completely involuntarily dilate from fear and constrict from anger.

But the smile is unique. It is so important for a person that he has learned to control this reflex reaction. The importance of a smile in a person’s life is confirmed by the variety of its functions.

Why do you need to do exercises?

By strengthening your facial muscles, you will be able to freely use your facial expressions and create a sincere smile.

And sincerity can disarm any enemy, improve relations with a strict boss, and quickly conclude a business agreement.

When you feel like crying out of despair, blur out from your heart and you will feel much better. You will soon feel that your sadness is not so terrible, you will want to have fun and laugh. If you made a mistake, a shy smile will help smooth it out. Children use this technique and everything is forgiven for them.

If a person has grief or sadness, try to help him by simply smiling, encouraging, helping with advice.

How to find your angle?

First, find out how wide you can open your mouth. It all depends on the condition of your oral cavity and dental health. Smiling in front of the mirror will help you figure this out. You should have a natural and relaxed smile that can highlight your advantages. The mirror will help you with this like no other.

Pay attention to what your eyes are doing at this time. Squinting slightly, your eyes complement your smile with naturalness and sincerity. This is a great solution for those who want to divert attention from less than perfect teeth. “Duchenne smile” is a condition of the heart that cannot be faked. Be sincere.

Wear bright jewelry that can distract attention from your lips. Earrings with unusual stones are perfect for this purpose. Do an interesting hairstyle, wear a scarf or other fun accessory.

Ask a friend to take photos of you from different angles. In the finished photos it will be easier for you to understand which side and tilt is best to photograph in your case.

Be happy and give happiness to others!

Secrets of a charming smile

In addition to exercises, there are other techniques.

  1. Training in front of a mirror will help consolidate the results, because your face will gradually get used to the new position.
  2. Once you put on a radiant smile, you will see the friendly attitude of the people around you. You'll love it!
  3. Stop smoking and drinking coffee often to avoid damaging your teeth.
  4. Use whitening at least once a month.
  5. Maintain facial symmetry. You will never be able to smile sweetly if your face is distorted. Achieving symmetry is difficult, but it is necessary. Go to the mirror, smile, maintaining symmetry. Remember this state!
  6. Approaching the mirror, press the corners of your lips with your fingers and make cute facial expressions. Practice, it will do you good.
  7. If after several trainings your fingers do not find the edges of your lips, repeat this exercise again until this facial expression begins to work out by itself.

Dental health and beauty

Since childhood, we have been taught to carefully care for our teeth, brush twice a day after meals, and be wary of external damage. By following these rules, there will be fewer troubles in the future and the beauty of your teeth will be preserved. After all, it is known that dental treatment is unpleasant and expensive.

90% of people in the world have incorrect taste and direction of teeth, which affects not only beauty, but also health in general. Therefore, if you have the opportunity and money, be sure to use the services of a professional orthodontist. Rest assured, braces are an incredibly profitable investment. Having a dazzling, correct smile will change your life. Studies have shown that people with a pleasant smile receive more monetary rewards than those who smile little.

Some people are shy and it is psychologically difficult to take a step towards foreign objects in the mouth. Tom Cruise decided to get braces after turning 40.

Many girls are not able to afford such huge expenses as braces or others. Don’t worry about this, in any case, the main thing is to always keep your teeth clean and healthy, because grooming is one of the most important and mandatory rules.

What to do if your bad mood won't let go

You don’t always have a good mood; how can you keep your face up if you want to cry? Try to have a slight smile on your face, not to glow like a copper teapot, but to “bloom” sweetly and easily.

Even if you are in a bad mood, there is no need to frown; cheerful, friendly facial expressions will act on others like hypnosis.

You will see that people will treat you with care and kindness. And this attitude will make your mood much better.

Try to remember a funny joke or a pleasant event, such as your baby's first steps. A kind smile will involuntarily play on your face.

Why do you need to smile?

A healthy smile has aesthetic value and creates an attractive appearance, which improves a person’s communication skills. The “quality image” associated with dental health has many important aspects:

  1. Good mood. This increases trust and sympathy for this person, which significantly reduces the risk of developing somatogenic or neurogenic diseases. One of the studies conducted in the USA proved that local and general immunity factors work more effectively in positive people compared to sad people burdened with many problems.
  2. Improving social adaptation. A large circle of friends and acquaintances, always ready to help, is an excellent means of preventing psychosomatic pathologies (stress, neurotic disorders).
  3. Production of endorphin and serotonin. Smiling, a person produces “happiness hormones” in large volumes. This allows you to look at any problems and difficulties as temporary, easily removable factors that get in the way.
  4. Prevention of atrophic changes in facial muscles and premature aging of facial skin. Frequent bright positive emotions improve blood flow in the microvasculature, which leads to increased oxygenation of all facial tissues and maintains the muscles of the facial area in good shape.

A beautiful smile is an indicator of a person’s health and success

It is important! People who smile often usually have no problems in their personal lives and at work. They look younger and more attractive.

The smile is from ear to ear, but the eyes are indifferent.

Sometimes you can see a photograph of a smiling person, but something about it confuses you. If you look closely, you can understand what exactly. It looks like a smile from all over the mouth, but it’s insincere. It is very easy to guess this. The lips laugh, but the eyes remain indifferent. A real smile affects them too. The look becomes warm and cheerful. If you can't laugh with your eyes, practice in front of a mirror. Pay attention to your eyes when you smile. The muscles around them should also be involved. Try smiling in different ways, and at the same time you will understand which smile suits you best. You can cover your mouth with a piece of paper, laugh only with your eyes. Here is one of the main secrets of how to learn to smile beautifully. A few workouts will help make your face look natural during a photo shoot.

Correct teeth defects

And, of course, in order to smile beautifully, you need to have an invaluable arsenal, consisting of two rows of straight and white teeth. Crooked teeth can be corrected with braces, and yellowness can be corrected with a special diet, whitening gels, strips or trays. If you are not satisfied with the condition of your teeth, visit a qualified dentist, he will select an effective method of correction and whitening. Of course, the help of a specialist will require considerable financial expenses, but investments in your own health and beauty will pay off handsomely in the future.

Chinese proverb

It’s very pleasant to talk and think about good, kind, bright, pleasant, cheerful things, and at the same time smile, joke, laugh! And, of course, everyone has heard more than once that smiling and laughing are useful... So what? There must be a reason! As the famous saying goes, “Laughter for no reason is a sign of a fool!” A whole branch of psychiatry is studying laughter, humor and its influence on the human body - gelotology (gelos translated from Greek - “laughter”). There are many reasons to smile every day, but we solve so many important and serious issues at once, and so much negativity is showered on us that sometimes, even in humorous situations, the face retains an expression that has become familiar - lips pursed, eyes squinted in disbelief, head bowed... but that’s all. -let's talk about smiles!

What brings a smile to our charming face? Most often, positive emotions and humor! The inverse relationship has also been proven and tested - even an artificially induced smile puts a person in a good mood!

There are different classifications of laughter and smiles - among artists, psychologists, dentists, ethnic smiles... So, for example, in Thailand, which advertising presents as the “Land of Smiles”, one really gets the impression that the Thais are very friendly and happy people. But the constant smiles of Thais are partly explained by the fact that in 2003 the Thai Ministry of Culture announced a campaign to increase the number of smiles in the country. “If you smile three times a day, then from tomorrow you should smile six times,” it was announced to the population.

A smile (yim in Thai) is a reaction to almost any event in Thailand! There are 13 main types of smiles in this country:

1) Yim tak tai - a polite smile intended for strangers or people you barely know; 2) Feun yim – a smile like “I-have-to-smile-even-though-I-don’t-want-to-smile”; 3) Yim cheuat cheuan - the smile of a winner, the smile of superiority; 4) Yim tang nam dtah – smile when you are really happy, “I-just-won-the-lottery!!!”; 5) Yim tak tan – a smile like “sorry-but-you’re-wrong-and-I’m-right!”; 6) Yim sao - a smile hiding sadness or unhappiness; 7) Yim mee lay-nai – a smile that hides evil intentions, like “I’m-smiling-because-I’m-going-to-tear-you-and-you-don’t-know-about-it”; 8) Yim cheun chom - smile when you are surprised or admired by something; 9) Yim yor - A smile in ridicule, a taunt to someone; 10) Yim mai ork - You want to smile, but you can’t. Literally “The smile that doesn’t work”; 11) Yim yair-yair - a smile with which you apologize for an awkward situation; 12) Yim hairng - dry smile. Like “Sorry-we-forgot-your-luggage-but-please-don’t-be-animal”; 13) Yim soo - the smile of an optimist - “My-things-are-pipe-so-that-I-can-only-smile.”

It is difficult to distinguish one type of Thai smile from another, because it is not always clear what is really hidden behind this smile.

But the Malay Ministry of Culture decided to carry out the following action: send 850,000 Malay officials to special courses teaching smiles and good manners.

Before the 2008 Olympics, many residents of Beijing had to undergo special training in order to learn to smile at all strangers on the streets, which is generally not customary in China.

And, for example, in one Japanese documentary about an emergency landing of an airplane, it was shown how the flight attendant smiled at all the passengers before the emergency landing, and how after landing she fell and became hysterical - she fulfilled her professional duty and calmed the passengers.

In Russia, smiling and laughter are almost the same thing. But the Russian smile is intended for our own people - for relatives, friends and acquaintances. This is why saleswomen don’t smile at customers - they don’t know them. Russian saleswomen will smile at customers they know. And it is appropriate to smile for some specific, meaningful reason that is understandable to others. And at work we work, and don’t smile - we are very busy. A Russian smile must be a sincere reflection of good humor and friendliness, otherwise it is the wrong smile. But it’s not particularly customary for us to hide a bad mood from others.

Russian writers have more than once drawn attention to the difference between Russian and American smiles, characterizing the American smile as strange and artificial for a Russian person. The satirist M. Zadornov called the American smile chronic, and M. Zhvanetsky wrote that Americans smile as if they were connected to the network. M. Gorky wrote that the first thing you see on Americans’ faces is their teeth.

“Take off your duty smile!” – they said to a Russian English teacher in Voronezh, who “kept a smile” all the time in an American way.

An American wrote in Izvestia: “For some reason, when we look at the customs officers checking our passports and smile at them, we never receive a smile in return. When we make eye contact with Russian people on the street and smile at them, we never receive a smile in return.” This observation is correct: if a stranger smiles at a Russian person, this will more likely prompt the Russian to look for the reason for the smile addressed to him than to prompt him to respond to the stranger with a smile. Often in such situations the question follows: “Are we familiar?”

Among Russians, the smile of a familiar person is also not always automatically followed by a smile; rather, it is seen as an invitation to enter into contact, into a conversation. In Russian communication, it is not customary to smile at a person if you accidentally meet his gaze. Americans smile in such cases, but Russians, on the contrary, tend to look away.

If the reason is unclear or is considered insufficiently respectful for others, they may interrupt the smile and make a remark - why are you smiling? For example, a habitually smiling American woman in Leningrad in 1991 was grabbed by the sleeve by an unknown old woman and exclaimed: “Why are you smiling?” The American was also shocked because she did not find this word in her pocket dictionary.

The current material well-being of the person smiling is recognized as a worthy (and in fact the only) reason for a smile in Russian communication, writes I.A. Sternin in the article “Smile in Russian Communicative Behavior.”

Paul Ekman, a famous American psychologist, identified only 19 types of smiles!

1) Sincere;8) 2) Scared; 3) Smile of contempt; 4) Discreet; 5) Pathetic; 6) Cruel (sadistic); 7) Flirting; Confused; 9) “Chaplin’s Smile”; 10) Sad-happy; 11) Scared and pleased; 12) Excited and pleased; 13) Surprised and pleased; 14) Evaluating; 15) Obsequious; 16) Conciliatory; 17) Response; 18) Feigned; 19) Covering.

Everyone has heard the expression “Hollywood smile” more than once - the radiant smile of Marilyn Monroe was first called that.

The concept of “American smile” has long come into use.

American culture cultivates the desire for happiness, positivity, and cheerfulness. The US Declaration of Independence proclaims the pursuit of happiness to be the inalienable right of every citizen. “Cheer up! After all, everything could have been worse,” “Smile! Pay attention only to the bright side of life!” “Look fun when you're in public!” “The boss must show his subordinates, and his subordinates must show clients and customers that everything is going well. Being moody is like being dirty!” – all this has been instilled in Americans since childhood, and has become the norm. 80% of Americans, according to surveys, consider themselves happy!

The American smile expresses friendliness. Pleasant words and polite smiles are an integral part of their everyday communication. But to many, this constant smile seems unnatural and insincere, mechanical, routine, and often inappropriate.

In the Hollywood melodrama "Broken Shoots" directed by Griffith, there is a scene that will forever go down in the history of world cinema - an angry father demands a smile from his tormented daughter, and she in response raises the corners of her lips with trembling fingers, and then dies.

This scene, performed by the great actress Lillian Gish, shocked many generations of viewers to tears.

And it is no coincidence that it was the American artist Harvey Bell who came up with something that we often use in Internet correspondence - the emoticon. And the little smiling yellow face turns out to be a great way to lift your spirits! When representatives of the insurance company State Mutual Life Assurance Cos. of America ordered Harvey Bell a business card for their company, he depicted on it... just a smile - “smile”. Company employees began wearing these badges on their clothes and giving them to clients, who also happily showed their smile to friends and acquaintances.

A few months later, the circulation of the badges exceeded ten thousand, the badge appeared on clothing, postal products, in the press, on matchboxes... The US Postal Department issued a stamp with a smiley face!

“Never before in the history of mankind and art has there been a single work that, having spread so widely, brought so much happiness, joy and pleasure. There was nothing that was done so simply, but became clear to everyone,” Bell later said. He also came up with the holiday - International Smile Day, which is celebrated on October 1.

Dentists and plastic surgeons distinguish 3 main styles of smiles:

1. Spike (commissural) style : the most common style, approximately 67% of the population has it. It is characterized by the raising of the corners of the mouth upward and to the sides, following the levator labii superioris muscle, and ends with the exposure of the upper teeth. The lower edge of the smile runs along the incisal edge of the upper central incisors. Further, this line rises to the maxillary first molars and runs 1-3 mm higher than the cutting edge of the upper incisors. The immediate smile ranges from 7 to 22 mm between the lips. The average smile angle is 40 degrees (but can be 24-38 degrees). When comparing the left and right sides, there may be a large difference in the movement pattern. People with a commissure smile style: Frank Sinatra, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Lee Curtis, Audrey Hepburn.

2. Canine style : found in 31% of the population. The shape of the lips when smiling resembles a diamond. Characterized by the display of fangs, then the corners of the mouth rise up and stretch to the sides. Often the corners of the mouth remain below the maxillary canines. The smile ends at the level of the upper premolars, in contrast to the commissure style, in which even the eighth teeth are sometimes visible. The canine style also has a more poetic name - “gull wing”. People with this smile style: Elvis Presley, Tom Cruise, Drew Barrymore, Sharon Stone, Linda Evangelista.

3. Mixed style : 2% of the population has it. The shape of the lips when smiling looks like two parallel chevrons. The levator labii superioris and anguli oris and the depressor labii inferioris muscles work simultaneously to expose both the upper and lower teeth. The key characteristic of this smile is the strong muscular tension and retraction of the lower lip downwards and backwards. People with mixed smile styles: Julia Roberts, Marilyn Monroe, Wil Smith, Oprah Winfrey. Often the shape of a smile can be caused by a habit or inappropriate arrangement of the hard tissues of the oral cavity. Smile restoration can help the patient overcome long-standing problems and also improve attractiveness.

There are 4 stages in the formation of the smile cycle:

  1. Lips closed
  2. Half-smile (lips are relaxed, but the corners of the mouth are slightly raised)
  3. Natural smile
  4. Wide (full) smile

Of course, the types of smiles vary and are unique to each person. Varieties

There are 5 variations in the external characteristics of a smile, which depend on the presence of hard and periodontal tissues in the “smile zone”:

View 1: Only the upper teeth (or part thereof) are visible View 2: The upper teeth and more than 3 mm of gums are visible View 3: Only the lower teeth (or part thereof) are visible View 4: Both the upper and lower teeth are visible View 5: Neither are visible upper or lower teeth

In most cases, a person strictly falls under one of these varieties, however, if necessary, you can combine the types.

Exercises to create a beautiful smile

Perform 2 times a day, best in the morning or evening. In a week you will notice how charming your smile has become! In addition, these exercises are a good prevention of both facial and age wrinkles. After all, when you smile (depending on its type), from 13 to 53 muscles contract!

  1. We strive to reach with closed lips to the finger, which we hold at a distance of 3-4 centimeters from the lips. They stretched, then leaving their lips extended, opened their mouth, then closed it tightly. Next, relax all the facial muscles for a few seconds. Repeat 5 times.
  2. Fold your closed lips into a tube, extend them, and in this position move your lips from side to side for about 30 seconds. Then for 10 sec. Relax your lips. Repeat 5 times.
  3. Make a figure eight with your lips tightly closed, then relax your muscles. Repeat 5 times.
  4. Stick your tongue out as far as possible, wrap your lips tightly around it, and hold the muscles in this position for a few seconds, then sharply relax the muscles of the lips and tongue. Repeat 5 times.
  5. Fold your closed lips into a tube and open them slightly. From this position, exhale sharply (as if you were blowing out, for example, a candle). Then relax your lip muscles. Do it 3 times.
  6. Inhale deeply through your nose, drawing a lot of air into your lungs, purse your lips tightly, and try to exhale through your mouth without releasing the air. Feel the tension in the muscles of your cheeks, then part your lips and exhale.
  7. It is performed as the previous exercise, but the air is immediately released through the lips so that vibration is felt on the lips.
  8. We stretch our closed lips into a very wide smile, looking in the mirror so that too sharp “creases” do not form in the cheek area.

Lip condition, makeup

A beautiful smile does not mean flaky, dry, chapped lips. Remember regular moisturizing, hygiene products, masks and nourishing balms. Men can simply lubricate problem lips with cream. Moisturizing your lips is especially important during the frosty and windy season.

If a woman has naturally thin lips, then she will have to give up bright lipstick. In this case, the smile visually divides the mouth into two thin stripes, and this is not very beautiful. That is why ladies with thin lips need to use natural shades of lipstick or shimmering gloss. You can also use a little trick: use a contour pencil 2 shades darker than the main one, moving both the upper and lower borders of the lips 2-3 millimeters.
