natural1992: Our introduction to Splat. Children's toothpaste from 2 to 6 years.

My morning started in a good mood, and I wish the same for you, my dear readers. Today the object of my “research” will be the children’s toothpaste “Splat”, or rather, its many varieties. This brand has been known for a long time and has proven itself well. However, I previously used exclusively adult toothpastes, and bought products from other manufacturers for children.

In general, after expensive imported products, it was difficult to believe that Splat children's toothpaste from 0 to 4 could be on the same level with them. But I decided to give her a chance.

Pastes for children aged 3-8 years

"LACALUT Kids"

A paste that contains one of the fluoride compounds, which prevents the appearance and further development of caries. The substance strengthens tooth enamel and creates a thin film on the surface of the teeth (only 30 seconds of active brushing is enough for its appearance). Thanks to this, fluoride saturates the tissues for several hours after brushing: this is of no small importance, since many children do not spend enough time brushing their teeth.

Has a mild abrasiveness (RDA 25). In terms of cost, the product can be classified as an average price category (50 ml packaging costs from 120 rubles).

The product has received approval from German dentists.

"PRESIDENT Kids" (President Kids)

Italian cleaning gel with xylitol and fluoride. The good composition did not affect the increase in cost: the product is sold at an affordable competitive price. Children will definitely like the taste of cola and will make brushing their gums and teeth more enjoyable.

The amount of fluoride and the level of abrasiveness (RDA 50) are within the normal range for children of this age.

"SPLAT JUNIOR (Splat Junior)

A domestic paste that includes, in addition to aminofluoride and calcis, enzymes that have a positive effect on the protective characteristics of the oral mucosa.

The inclusion of calcium and fluorine at the same time is a rather controversial move by manufacturers. If you look at this issue from a chemistry point of view, then the breakdown of these substances into ions occurs with the help of water, which is in any paste. If both components are present, their ions bind together to form salt right in the tube: such a mixture does not contain any useful substances that strengthen and protect teeth.

The composition does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate, which is very harmful to the body, but is often used by paste manufacturers to improve cleansing properties and better foaming properties.

The product costs around 120 rubles for 55 ml.

"Silca Putzi" with orange flavor

The paste can be used to clean any teeth: temporary milk teeth and permanent molars. The composition contains sodium fluoride, but it is worth considering that for children under 5 years of age, the use of fluoride is justified only if carious formations are detected. If there are no carious formations and there are no prerequisites for its development, it is better to opt for a product with calcium.

The product is imported, but this does not affect its cost: the price is very affordable (a 75 ml tube costs around 60 rubles). The product is of very high quality, which is why it was approved by German dentists.

"ROCS Kids" (Rocks Kids) with barberry aroma

Russian paste does not contain fluoride, which makes it indispensable for use by children living in regions with high concentrations of this element in water.

The composition contains one of the most effective calcium compounds, which strengthens tooth enamel well, and a polyhydric alcohol, called xylitol, which neutralizes acids.

Excellent composition, which is no worse than imported analogues. However, all the existing advantages are canceled out by the very high price, especially when you consider that the paste was made in Russia - around 200 rubles for a small 45-gram tube. Why such a high price? Perhaps an explanation can be obtained from the manufacturer.

Reading customer reviews

Reviews of Splat children's toothpaste are available on many websites. These include specialized portals dedicated to any product and portals about dentistry. Of course, I didn’t ignore the forums for young mothers who try toothpastes on their children.

To be honest, I believe the reviews about as much as the dental association that has approved yet another toothpaste from yet another rich corporation. But sometimes you come across people who are bothered and can write a whole story with photos for free about how they experienced the next creation of chemists and biologists.

So, 90% of reviews report: people are surprised that the paste does not foam. The second “negative” review is dear. Well, how can I tell you? I had bought more expensive pastes before.

Some children don't like the cherry taste. I don't see any negative reviews about the rest. Taste is an individual matter. When I tried one cherry paste, I wanted to spit it out right away, this strange taste seemed so unnatural. We all understand perfectly well that flavoring additives are not made from berries and fruits.

Who among us did not eat toothpaste as a child? And if it’s tasty, then even more so. Therefore, it is very important what exactly is included in the composition. “Splat” has always been valued precisely for its quality and the absence of harmful components in its composition.

We read on the official website:

  • does not contain lauryl sulfate and polyethylene glycol (PEG);
  • without strong abrasives;
  • without specific foaming substances;
  • without fluoride.

Parents may be outraged that fluoride strengthens teeth. Yeah, but it’s difficult to correctly calculate the required amount of this element. And if it is higher than normal, it is harmful for a person. This is not to mention the body of a small child.

In general, aggressive antibacterial components, abrasives, etc. are completely unsuitable for baby toothpaste.

Pastes for children from 6 to 12 years old

"LACALUT Teens"

German gel with a pleasant mint-citrus taste. The composition contains sodium fluoride and amino fluoride: the dosage of these components is quite high. The product protects teeth from caries and saturates the enamel, and also allows you to cure caries that is in the so-called “white spot” stage.

A 50-ml tube of paste will cost 120 rubles.

German dentists vouch for the excellent quality of the product.

"ELMEX Junior" (Elmex)

Paste with fluoride, which strengthens enamel and protects against caries. Released. A high dosage of fluoride ensures the elimination of caries in the initial stage of the “white spot”.

The cost of the product is 150 rubles per 75 ml tube.

"PresiDENT Junior" (President Junior)

Italian pasta with a pronounced lime flavor. A product with a good composition, which is slightly worse than the two previous samples. Fluorine is present in compounds that are not the most effective: its dosage is preventive rather than therapeutic (950 ppm).

Contains no sodium lauryl sulfate, sugar or parabens. However, the Italian manufacturer with an impeccable reputation has long established itself exclusively on the positive side, so you don’t have to worry about the quality of the product at all.

Where to buy Splat pastes?

Where can you buy Splat children's toothpastes? In general, there are no particular difficulties with this. As stated in Wikipedia, which I also read, the company’s products are sold in 28 countries around the world, including former Soviet republics.

I also came across these pastes in stores. A lot depends on the suppliers here. Therefore, one supermarket may have a good selection of care products, while another may have one or two tubes, and even those for adults.

Does it make sense to buy online? In the 21st century this is a very strange question. I wouldn't be surprised if offline stores disappear altogether, turning into pick-up points equipped with warehouses for your packages. Of course, you can buy, but only from trusted sellers, so as not to run into another fake. Yes, not only iPhones are counterfeited, but also toothpastes and even medicines.

This concludes my story about getting to know children's products. I wish you good health and equally strong teeth. Write, leave comments, subscribe to updates! After tooth extraction, the temperature rose, read our article.

Pastes for teenagers

"PRESIDENT Teens"

Italian paste for the care of molar permanent teeth. It has an excellent composition: a high concentration of fluorides (more than 1300 ppm), an average level of abrasiveness. Has a pronounced mint taste. There are no harmful substances in the composition.

But the price is not particularly encouraging: 50 ml of paste costs more than 140 rubles, but everyone decides for themselves what is better: either spend money on a high-quality paste, or then waste time, nerves and money on visiting the dentist.

How to choose a good pasta for a child

Remember that choosing the right toothpaste is not a guarantee that your baby’s teeth will be fine. Of course, toothpaste is very important, but it is equally important to teach a child from an early age to brush their teeth correctly, without neglecting this procedure.

Basic recommendations for choosing pastes:

  1. If a child under 5 years of age has no caries or only one carious formation has been recorded, it is better to opt for a paste with calcium glycerophosphate. At an early age, the enamel is poorly mineralized - it constantly lacks calcium salts.
  2. After a year of life, does your baby constantly develop caries on his teeth? You need to buy a paste with a fluoride compound in its composition (the most effective compounds are sodium fluoride and amino fluoride). This position is official and constantly recommended by Russian dentists. You can often find information that toothpastes with fluoride are supposedly very harmful for young children, but you should not believe it: panic is whipped up in forums and other communities where the majority of participants do not understand medicine and do not follow changes in the field of dental developments. European dentists have long experimentally established that toothpastes containing fluoride up to 500 ppm are safe for children under 6 years of age. Moreover, they are even recommended if carious lesions occur regularly. It is much more important that the composition does not contain preservatives and other substances that are quite harmful to the young body.
  3. In a number of areas, the water contains a large amount of fluoride: residents of such regions should refrain from purchasing pastes with fluoride, so as not to provoke the development of fluorosis. If water that has been passed through purification filters is used for cooking and drinking, worrying about oversaturation with fluoride will be clearly unnecessary (many filters eliminate most of the fluoride from the liquid passed through them).
  4. Studying the composition of some children's toothpastes, you will notice that they contain calcium and fluorine at the same time. It is better not to buy such a product, since these substances, when reacting, form salts that do not have a positive effect on the teeth.
  5. A number of pastes contain exclusively abrasive-polishing and anti-inflammatory components, but there is no calcium or fluoride. Such products strengthen gums, but do not support dental health. They can be used, but only in combination with a paste containing fluoride or calcium (for example, brush your teeth with one type of paste in the morning and another in the evening).
  6. Children suffering from persistent stomatitis should use pastes with special enzymes that increase oral immunity (lactoferrin, lysozyme, etc.).

Let's start studying

Why did I believe Splat? The answer for me is very simple. The company has been around for a very long time. I remember where they started - they made dietary supplements from spirulina algae. Then pastes and other things appeared. Now the company has become very famous.

At the same time, what is very pleasing is that they did not begin to sharply increase prices.

The second point is the domestic manufacturer. It's not that I have any prejudice towards imported goods. It’s just nice to buy quality and at the same time, your own, made in the CIS.

Let's read the composition of Splat children's toothpaste:

  • aloe vera extract;
  • calcium;
  • licorice extract;
  • omega-3 fatty acids.

The box contains a silicone toothbrush for children. We tried cleaning it with it. In principle, no one is against or resisting. There are no complaints about the taste of the pasta either. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get a child, especially a small one, to brush their teeth?

Specifically, on our paste it was written “Splat Junior Vanilla” and below “from O to 4”.

What else is there in the Splat Junior series?

  1. "East". Raspberry flavor. Age - from 3 to 8 years. According to the manufacturer, it helps in the remineralization of tooth enamel. Contains lactic enzymes, licorice extract and calcium.
  2. "West". The composition is essentially the same. Only apple taste. Although somehow I came across a strawberry with a hare on a tube.
  3. "North". Blueberry yogurt flavour.
  4. "South". Pasta with fruit flavor.

In general, I don’t really understand what they write there. Cardinal directions, animals, etc. The composition is still the same. All you have to do is choose the right flavor. Although usually it looks like “paaap, buy that one with the hare.” But I like protein better.

They write that their technology protects against the formation of bacterial plaque and helps calcium ions “cling” to the enamel. In general, they used to slip, fall into the abyss and break. Now they are holding on. But seriously, I personally liked the composition.

There is also another line for kids. These are Splat Juicy children's toothpastes.

There is even a set with three different flavors. The first package I came across was an “intensively strengthening” one with ice cream flavor. It certainly sounds cool. Let's see what they promise.

Interestingly, it is recommended not only for children, but also for adults whose tooth enamel is too sensitive. They also write about the effect of a microseal. The active substance is nanocalcium hydroxyapatite (mHAP). Nanotechnology again? Always amused by these names that exist only for marketing. Like those bacteria in yoghurts that have nice names but don’t do anything. That is, they do not affect anything at all.
