The shade of the labia changes over time. There are scientific studies showing that the color change in this area is influenced by hormone levels. Therefore, the genitals may darken during menopause and puberty. A change in color is also observed during pregnancy, and after childbirth the shade may not become the same.
Sometimes the labia remain pink in the middle and darken at the edges. This situation is not a sign of any violation. However, in this case, if desired, labiaplasty can be performed to remove the protruding edges of the genitals.
Exercises for beautiful lip shape
This set of exercises will not take you much time, but will serve as an excellent prevention of age-related changes in the skin of the lips. You can do it in the morning before applying makeup or in the evening before going to bed.
- Pull your lips out and exhale as if you were blowing out a candle. After exhaling, relax your lips. Repeat 8-10 times.
- As you inhale, puff out your cheeks and begin to exhale - slowly and evenly, starting to push out the air as you exhale. The eye area should be relaxed. Repeat 8-10 times.
- Articulating as expressively as possible, pronounce the vowels A, I, O, U, Y. Repeat 10 times.
- Pull your lips forward as far as possible, opening your mouth slightly. Relax your lips and close your mouth. Repeat 15-20 times.
- Move your lower jaw left and right along with your lips so that the movement begins from the lips. Repeat 20 times.
- Stick your tongue out as far forward as possible, hold at the extreme point for a couple of seconds, then retract your tongue and relax your lips. Repeat 5 times.
Is it true that the labia can darken due to sexual activity or masturbation?
This question very often worries young girls who have noticed that, with the onset of intimate life or against the background of masturbation, their genitals have changed color. However, there is no direct connection here, it’s just that at this moment the girl grows up, her hormonal levels change, and the color of her genitals may change. However, if she had not masturbated and remained a virgin, her labia would still have become the same, because this feature is genetically determined.
Even the palest woman has much darker inner labia compared to the rest of her skin. The shade of the genitals can be influenced by the genes of darker blood relatives. In general, there is no connection between sex life and the color of the labia. Virginity or, conversely, sexual promiscuity cannot be defined in this way.

In cosmetology and plastic surgery, scientific and statistical parameters of the lips are accepted, which characterize the “ideal” shape - ratios, symmetry and numerical expressions of volume. However, you and I understand that some people like “plumpier”, some “elastic”, some with relief, and some with a clear contour. You can find a friend based on taste and color, but not right away.
Professional cosmetologists with experience try not to pay attention to numbers and ratios, because the attractiveness of the lips is assessed exclusively in the complex of the entire face, and the most important thing about them is naturalness. But when it is possible to bring the patient’s lips closer to ideal proportions, when the patient’s wishes and the possibilities of correction coincide, then there is no shame in the result of the correction.
Golden ratio principle
Approximate and average norms for the structure of the nasolabial triangle:
- The proportion of the upper and lower lips is approximately 1:1.6 (size and width)
- The volume (bulge) of the upper lip at the extreme point is literally 1-2 mm greater than the same parameter of the lower lip
- The size and width of the upper lip is, on the contrary, 10-25% smaller than the lower lip
- The distance from the lower part of the nose (septum) to the lower part of the philtrum (base of the upper lip in the middle) is 1.7-2.3 cm
- The distance from the middle part of the contour of the lower lip to the contour of the chin is 3-4 cm
- The width of the philtrum corresponds to the width of the two front teeth
- Open smile: 2/3 exposure of the anterior incisors and complete or almost complete concealment of the lower incisors
By the way, a group of scientists from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons conducted an experiment with a survey of 6,000 people. They were shown an image of a girl whose lips were changed in a graphic editor - from very thin to very lush. Those surveyed unanimously chose the option of an increase of 50% from the original.
People also voiced the opinion that ideal lips make up approximately 10% of the area of the lower third of the face. Now they plan to include these criteria in the advisory instructions for aesthetic surgeons and cosmetologists.
The tasks of harmonizing proportions can be diametrically opposed. And objectively, “small” lips do not always need additional volume - perhaps the defect is associated with the distance between the nose and the edge of the red border.
Ricketts line, S-line, line from nose to chin
Another test for determining the harmony of mouth proportions is called the “aesthetic Ricketts E-line.” It is conventionally drawn in profile from the tip of the nose to the most convex part of the chin, like the blue line in our illustrations.
You can often find a line that connects the extreme point of the chin, passes along the extreme points of the lips and rests on the nose.
You can estimate the required lip proportions using these diagrams yourself; it is believed that lips extending beyond the green line (or touching the blue line) look unnatural and are too dominant. The recommended profile is shown in Figure 2.
Only a cosmetologist with experience and a harmonious look can understand these minor features of symmetry. Look at the same profiles, but without the line tips.
The peculiarity of lip size corrections in profile is that the “ideal” depends not only on the size of the lips, but also on the size of the chin and nose!

In what cases should you worry?
You need to start worrying if the labia become red, inflamed, white, dark spots or other pathological lesions appear on them. In this case, you should definitely contact a gynecologist. Melanoma can develop on the genitals - a very malignant tumor, manifested by the appearance of brown or even black spots that quickly increase in size. Therefore, their presence is a reason to contact an oncologist as soon as possible.
In other cases, there is no need to worry. Changing the color of the genitals is a completely normal process that does not indicate any disorder, much less promiscuity.

If you paint directly from the tube, then from the first layer, upon macro-examination, you can see that it does not spread over the lips. So I apply it with a brush at home, and can touch it up on the go straight from the tube. With this lipstick you just have to have a pencil, the color is too bright and pretentious, it’s easy to smudge and draw lips of an amazing shape. But I deliberately went a little beyond the upper contour and made the lips into a bow)). The longevity
of the lipstick is excellent, 3-4 hours without the desire to touch up. It does not disappear anywhere, does not roll, does not spread and lies tightly. But I don't risk filming it outside the house... because:
